HANDISPORT

For the 2022 edition, the Ironlakes Triathlon is opening four of these events to disabled athletes. 

Athletes with disabilities will be able to compete in two formats, as individuals or in a team relay.

CLASSIFICATION – 2 RACE FORMATS

INDIVIDUAL

PTWC (ParaTriathlon WheelChair)

Athletes must use a recumbent handbike on the bike course and a running chair on the run course

PTS (ParaTriathlon Standing)

Open to athletes who can compete standing. In both the cycling and running sections, amputee athletes may use approved prostheses or other approved support devices.

PTVI (ParaTriathlon Visual Impairment) 

Open to visually impaired athletes. A guide is mandatory during the entire race. The bike part is compulsory in tandem.

For safety reasons, we prefer to offer only the SPRINT distance for PTWC athletes for this 1st edition. Depending on the feedback from the athletes, we will adapt the entries for disabled athletes for the 2023 edition.

Note: PTWC athletes will have to be accompanied on the bike part.

RELAY FORMAT

RELAY PRINCIPLE

  • The relay team is composed of two or three athletes.
  • The team may be composed of disabled and able-bodied athletes.
  • In the relay race each athlete in the team must perform at least one complete discipline: Swimming, Cycling, or Running.
  • In the case of a team of two athletes, one athlete of the team must therefore complete two disciplines.
  • The 3 members of the team MUST present themselves to the secretariat for the withdrawal of the number.
  • At the time of the number pick-up, the non-licensed athletes will have to show their identity card and provide a medical certificate mentioning the aptitude to do a triathlon in competition. The certificate is valid for 6 months.
  • Licensed athletes must present a valid licence from an international triathlon federation.

THE RELAY IN PRACTICE

  • The « Relay » MUST take place IN the transition area at the team’s allocated location
  • Only team mates passing the « Relay » are allowed to be in the transition area
  • The electronic chip is the « Relay » and must be placed consecutively on the LEFT ankle of each relay participant
